Amish Baked Custard is a creamy, comforting dessert that’s perfect for any occasion. With a silky texture and delightful vanilla flavor, it’s sure to become a family favorite.

Ingredients

Scale

4 large eggs

room temperature

2 cups (480 ml) whole milk

½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

¼ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional

for garnish)

Whipped cream or fresh fruit for serving (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  • Pour the custard mixture into the prepared baking dish, and if desired, sprinkle the ground nutmeg on top.
  • Place the baking dish in a larger pan filled with hot water to create a water bath, which will help cook the custard evenly.
  • Bake for about 30 minutes, or until the custard is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the custard to cool slightly before serving. Top with whipped cream or fresh fruit if desired.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature eggs and whole milk. Let the custard cool for a few minutes before slicing for cleaner cuts.
