Description

Baked French Toast is a delightful and easy breakfast treat that combines the comforting flavors of French bread with creamy custard, perfect for feeding a crowd.

Ingredients

Scale

1 (1 pound) loaf French bread

cut diagonally in 1 inch slices

8 large eggs

2 cups milk

1 ½ cups half-and-half cream

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¾ cup butter

1 ⅓ cups brown sugar

3 tablespoons light corn syrup

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a large baking dish with butter.
  • Arrange the sliced French bread in a single layer in the prepared baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, half-and-half cream, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  • Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread slices, pressing down gently to ensure all the bread is soaked.
  • In a saucepan, melt the butter over low heat and mix in the brown sugar and corn syrup until smooth.
  • Pour the butter mixture over the bread, spreading it evenly.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and let it sit for at least 30 minutes, or refrigerate overnight for best results.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, removing the foil during the last 10 minutes to allow the top to brown.
  • Once baked, allow to cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes

For added flavor, feel free to add toppings like fruits, syrup, or powdered sugar when serving.
