Description

Delightful and sweet candied orange peel, perfect for snacking or using in desserts.

Ingredients

Scale

4 large navel oranges or 5 small

2 cups water

1 ½ cups granulated sugar divided

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Wash oranges thoroughly and cut them into quarters, removing the flesh carefully to preserve the peels.
  • Place the peels in a saucepan, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Boil for 10 minutes, then drain and repeat two more times.
  • In the same pot, combine 2 cups of fresh water, 1 cup of granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
  • Add the boiled orange peels to the sugar syrup and simmer on low heat for 30 minutes until peels are translucent.
  • Remove peels and let them cool on a wire rack. Roll the peels in the remaining ½ cup of sugar to coat them well.

Notes

Store candied orange peels in an airtight container for up to two weeks. They can also be dipped in chocolate for an extra treat.
