Description

Candy apples are a delightful treat that combines the crispness of apples with a sweet candy coating, perfect for autumn festivities.

Ingredients

Scale

6 medium apples (preferably tart varieties like Granny Smith)

2 cups granulated sugar

1/2 cup light corn syrup (Can be substituted with agave syrup)

3/4 cup water

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Food coloring (optional)

Chopped nuts or sprinkles (for decoration

optional)

Instructions

  • Wash and dry the apples thoroughly, removing any wax coating.
  • Insert wooden sticks or skewers into the top of each apple.
  • In a saucepan, combine granulated sugar, corn syrup, water, and vanilla extract. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring and continue boiling until it reaches the hard crack stage (about 300°F or 150°C).
  • If desired, add food coloring and mix well.
  • Dip each apple in the hot syrup, allowing excess to drip off, then place on a greased baking sheet.
  • While still warm, sprinkle with chopped nuts or sprinkles if desired.

Notes

Be cautious when handling hot sugar syrup. Let the candy apples cool completely before serving.
