1 1/2 cups buttermilk (add more as needed)

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  • Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk and melted butter.
  • Gently mix until a dough forms; be careful not to overmix.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead it gently for about 1 minute.
  • Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Cut a shallow cross on top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
