4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups buttermilk (add more as needed)
4 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
- Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk and melted butter.
- Gently mix until a dough forms; be careful not to overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead it gently for about 1 minute.
- Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on the prepared baking sheet.
- Cut a shallow cross on top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Allow to cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
For a richer flavor, serve with butter and jam. If you don’t have buttermilk, you can substitute it with milk mixed with a little vinegar.
