Ingredients
-
1 lb lean ground beef
-
½ medium onion, finely chopped
-
3–4 cloves garlic, minced
-
½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
-
½ tsp Italian seasoning
-
Salt and black pepper, to taste
-
1 cup uncooked orzo pasta
-
1 (14 oz) can tomato sauce
-
¾ cup beef broth
-
1 cup heavy whipping cream
-
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
-
½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
-
2 cups fresh baby spinach, packed
Instructions
-
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat and set beef aside.
-
In the same skillet, sauté the onion for 2–3 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
-
Stir in crushed red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
-
Add tomato sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and uncooked orzo. Stir well.
-
Bring to a gentle simmer, cover, and cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until orzo is tender.
-
Return the cooked beef to the skillet and stir in the heavy cream.
-
Add spinach and cook until wilted.
-
Remove from heat and stir in Parmesan cheese. Serve warm.
Notes
-
Use lean ground beef to reduce excess grease.
-
Add more broth if the sauce thickens too much.
-
Spinach can be replaced with kale or omitted if desired.
