This Hobo Casserole is a hearty and comforting dish made with layers of ground beef, potatoes, and cheese, all baked to perfection.
Ingredients

1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion
chopped
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
4 medium potatoes
thinly sliced
1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
½ cup milk
1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
½ teaspoon paprika (optional
for garnish)
1 tablespoon butter
melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion until the beef is no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by the beef mixture, and then the remaining potatoes.
- In a separate bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup with the milk and pour it evenly over the top of the casserole.
- Sprinkle the cheddar cheese on top, then drizzle with melted butter.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly.
- If desired, garnish with paprika before serving.
Notes
For a variation, add some vegetables like green beans or corn for added nutrition and flavor.
