These homemade biscuits are incredibly flaky and delicious, perfect for breakfast or as a side with dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

2 cups all-purpose flour (250g)

1 Tablespoon baking powder

1 Tablespoon granulated sugar

1 teaspoon salt

6 Tablespoons unsalted butter very cold (85g)

¾ cup whole milk¹ (177ml)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  • Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in the milk until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together.
  • Roll or pat the dough to about 1-inch thick, then cut out biscuits using a round cutter.
  • Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Serve warm with butter or your favorite jam.

Notes

For extra flaky biscuits, ensure the butter is extremely cold and avoid overworking the dough.
