Ingredients
Blueberries
Warm water
Active dry yeast or instant yeast
Granulated sugar
Bread flour or strong all-purpose flour
Salt
Vanilla extract
Optional dried blueberries
Honey or maple syrup or brown sugar
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine bread flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients, and pour in the yeast mixture and vanilla extract. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, incorporating fresh or dried blueberries as you knead.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Meanwhile, bring a large pot of water to a boil and add honey or another sweetener.
- Once the dough has risen, divide it into 4 equal pieces and shape each piece into a bagel.
- Boil each bagel for about 1-2 minutes per side before transferring them to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake the bagels in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow cooling slightly before serving. Enjoy your Homemade Blueberry Bagels!
Notes
Feel free to experiment with additional flavors like cinnamon or nuts. For a richer bagel, you can add an egg wash prior to baking.
