2 cups milk

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and granulated sugar until the mixture is pale and fluffy.
  • In a separate saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it’s just simmering, then remove from heat.
  • Gradually add the hot milk to the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly to temper the eggs.
  • Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat until it thickens slightly, stirring constantly, about 5-10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the heavy whipping cream, ground nutmeg, salt, and vanilla extract.
  • If desired, add alcohol to taste.
  • Chill the eggnog in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.
  • Serve chilled, topped with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon.
