Ingredients
1 cup water
1/2 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
1 cinnamon stick (or 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon)
1 vanilla bean
split and scraped (or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract)
1 teaspoon of loose-leaf black tea or 1 black tea bag (optional)
Sweetener of choice (sugar
honey
or other sweetener)
to taste
1 star anise (optional)
Instructions
- In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil.
- Add the cinnamon stick and vanilla bean (or extract) to the boiling water.
- If using, add the black tea to the saucepan and reduce heat, allowing it to steep for about 5 minutes.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the milk. Return to heat for an additional 2-3 minutes until heated through.
- Sweeten to taste and, if desired, add a star anise for additional flavor.
- Strain the tea into cups and serve hot or pour over ice for a refreshing iced option.
Notes
Feel free to adjust the sweetness according to your preference. For an iced version, let it cool before pouring over ice.
