Description
These light and fluffy Jelly Doughnuts are filled with your favorite fruit jam, making them a delightful treat for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
1 cup warm milk (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
⅓ cup water
1 egg beaten
3 tablespoons margarine melted
¾ cup white sugar
4 ½ cups bread flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 ½ teaspoons ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
¾ cup any flavor fruit jam
2 quarts vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, water, beaten egg, and melted margarine.
- Add white sugar, bread flour, salt, ground nutmeg, and active dry yeast. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- After rising, punch down the dough and roll it out to about ½ inch thick. Cut into circles using a cookie cutter.
- Place a teaspoon of fruit jam in the center of half of the dough circles. Top with remaining circles and seal the edges.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot. Fry the doughnuts until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes each.
- Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying to ensure a perfectly cooked doughnut. You can use any flavor of fruit jam that you enjoy.
