Description

If you’ve ever craved a dessert that’s both enchanting and delicious, Magic Cake is the answer. Made from a single batter, this magical dessert separates during baking into three irresistible layers: a light sponge top, a creamy custard center, and a soft, dense base. Elegant, simple, and mesmerizing, Magic Cake is perfect for special occasions or everyday indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs, separated (room temperature)

  • 1 cup white granulated sugar

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled

  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups lukewarm milk

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 320°F (160°C). Grease an 8×8-inch (20×20 cm) baking dish and line with parchment paper if desired.

  • Separate egg yolks and whites into two bowls.

  • Whisk egg yolks with sugar until pale and creamy.

  • Add melted butter and vanilla extract; mix well.

  • Slowly pour in milk while whisking continuously.

  • Sift in flour and mix until smooth and lump-free.

  • Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.

  • Gently fold egg whites into the batter in 3 additions. The batter will be thin—this is normal.

  • Pour batter into prepared dish and bake for 45–50 minutes, until the top is lightly golden and set.

  • Cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before slicing.

  • Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Do not overmix after folding in egg whites to preserve the layers.

  • Chill before slicing for clean, defined layers.

  • Best served slightly chilled or at room temperature.
