Instructions

  • In a large pot, heat the dendê oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and garlic, sautéing until the onions are translucent.
  • Add the sliced bell peppers and cook for an additional 5 minutes until they begin to soften.
  • Stir in the chopped tomatoes, coconut milk, and lime juice. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  • Gently add the fish fillets into the pot, ensuring they are submerged in the liquid. Add malagueta peppers according to your heat preference.
  • Cover the pot and let it cook for about 15 minutes or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily.
  • Remove the pot from heat and stir in the chopped cilantro just before serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, use light coconut milk. If dendê oil is unavailable, coconut oil can be a great substitute. Adjust the amount of malagueta peppers to suit your spice level.
