Description

P.F. Chang’s Mongolian Beef is a savory and sweet Asian-inspired dish featuring tender beef strips marinated and stir-fried with garlic, ginger, and green onions, coated in a rich brown sugar soy sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

12 pounds beef

cut into strips

4 green onions

chopped

½ teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon sugar

1 tablespoon corn starch

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon rice vinegar

2 tablespoons oil

4 teaspoons toasted sesame oil

1 ½ teaspoons ground ginger

2 tablespoons minced garlic

1 cup soy sauce

1 cup water

1 ⅔ cup brown sugar

3 tablespoons cold water

1 ½ tablespoons corn starch

sesame seeds

rice for serving

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine baking soda, sugar, corn starch, soy sauce, and rice vinegar to create the marinade. Add the beef strips and mix well. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  • In a large pan or wok, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Remove the beef from the pan and set aside. In the same pan, add the toasted sesame oil, ginger, and garlic. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Pour in the soy sauce, water, and brown sugar. Bring to a simmer and stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  • In a small bowl, mix the cold water and corn starch to create a slurry. Add this to the sauce and stir, continuing to simmer until the sauce thickens.
  • Return the beef to the pan and toss to coat in the sauce. Add the chopped green onions and stir for another 1-2 minutes.
  • Serve hot over rice, garnished with sesame seeds.

Notes

For added flavor, let the beef marinate longer than 30 minutes. Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of brown sugar to your liking.
