Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with unsalted butter.
- Cut the sourdough bread into cubes and place them evenly in the baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, making sure to soak all the cubes evenly. Add mixed berries on top.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until golden and puffed.
- Let the casserole cool for a few minutes, then serve warm with berry compote, powdered sugar, and maple syrup if desired.
Notes
For best results, let the casserole sit for 10-15 minutes after pouring the custard over the bread, allowing the bread to absorb the liquid. Feel free to mix in any other fruits or toppings you like.
