Preheat Oven & Prepare Cupcake Pan
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake tin with paper liners.Prepare the Cupcake Batter
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In another bowl, beat the egg, granulated sugar, brown sugar, oil, and vanilla until smooth.
Gradually add the dry ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, mixing until just combined.Bake
Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Let the cupcakes cool completely.Prepare the Frosting
In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter. Gradually add the confectioners’ sugar, cocoa powder, a pinch of salt, and heavy cream until smooth and fluffy. Add a touch of vanilla extract for flavor.Create the Spider Web
Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan and heat over medium heat until the mixture becomes a caramel-like consistency.
Once the cupcakes have cooled and been frosted, drizzle the sugar mixture over them to form spider web designs.
Notes
Ensure the cupcakes are completely cool before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
You can add small plastic spiders on top for an extra spooky effect!
Feel free to customize the flavor of the cupcakes by adding pumpkin spice or using a vanilla base.
