Ingredients
1 sheet store-bought puff pastry (thawed to package directions)
4 oz cream cheese (at room temperature)
2 tbsp white sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Red food colouring (optional)
1/2 cup diced strawberries
1 large egg
1 tbsp cold water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, blend the cream cheese, white sugar, vanilla extract, and food coloring (if using) until smooth.
- Gently fold in the diced strawberries into the cream cheese mixture.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into heart shapes using a cookie cutter.
- Place each heart on the prepared baking sheet, and spoon the cream cheese-strawberry mixture into the center of each heart.
- Fold the edges of the pastry over the filling to create a sealed pocket.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and cold water to create an egg wash, then brush it over each pastry.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving and enjoy!
Notes
For a dairy-free version, substitute the cream cheese with dairy-free cream cheese. Adjust the sweetness according to your taste, using powdered sugar for a smoother filling if preferred.
