Ingredients
1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter
cold and cubed
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 large egg yolk
2–3 tablespoons ice water
pinch of salt
2 cups (480ml) whole milk
1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
4 large egg yolks
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
powdered sugar
for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cold butter, sugar, and salt; mix until crumbly. Add the egg yolk and ice water to form the dough.
- Roll out the dough and fit it into a baking dish. Bake for 15 minutes until golden.
- In a saucepan, heat the milk and sugar until simmering. In another bowl, whisk egg yolks and cornstarch together. Gradually blend with the hot milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Stir in vanilla and butter.
- Pour the custard over the baked pastry, chill until set, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Make sure to chill the custard before serving for the best texture. You can add fresh fruits on top for extra flavor.
