Description

Delight in these homemade Amish Apple Fritters, a perfect blend of warm spices and sweet apples, coated in a delicious glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup whole wheat pastry flour
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 ½3 cups apples chopped into ½-inch pieces
  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 45 cups canola oil
  • 3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ¼ cup milk

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat pastry flour, all-purpose flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, granulated sugar, and baking powder.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
  3. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  4. Fold in the chopped or grated apples until evenly distributed.
  5. Heat the canola oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat, ensuring it reaches a temperature of about 350°F.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, frying until golden brown on each side, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  7. Remove the fritters and set them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  8. For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk in a bowl until you achieve your desired consistency.
  9. Drizzle the glaze over warm fritters before serving.

Notes

Adjust the thickness of the glaze according to your preference by varying the amounts of powdered sugar and milk.
