Description
Delicious homemade Apple Hand Pies filled with tart Granny Smith apples, sugar, and spices, encased in flaky pie crusts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large Granny Smith apples (about 1 lb.)
- peeled and diced
- 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 Tablespoons packed brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 Tablespoons water
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of ground nutmeg
- 2 unbaked pie crusts
- rolled into two 12-inch circles
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons milk
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples, sugar, brown sugar, salt, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook until the apples have softened, about 10 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the pie crusts on a floured surface and cut out circles using a 5-inch cutter.
- Place a spoonful of the apple mixture in the center of each crust circle. Fold the crust over to create a half-moon shape and seal the edges by crimping with a fork.
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg with milk to create an egg wash. Brush the tops of the hand pies with the egg wash.
- Place the pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Feel free to add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side for an extra treat!
