- 5 medium/large apples Granny Smith & Macoun
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- ¼–1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Homemade pie crust or biscuit dough
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Peel, core, and chop the apples into small pieces.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat, then add the chopped apples, brown sugar, granulated sugar (to taste), lemon juice, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Cook the mixture for about 5-7 minutes until the apples are slightly softened, then remove from heat.
- Roll out the pie crust or biscuit dough on a floured surface and cut into circles.
- Place a spoonful of the apple filling in the center of each circle, then fold over and seal the edges with a fork.
- Place the hand pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
