- 4 Tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 apples
- cored
- peeled
- and cut into small cubes
- 1 ½ teaspoons lemon juice
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar + ¼ cup for topping
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon + 2 teaspoons for topping
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 Tablespoon cornstarch
- 4 store-bought refrigerated pie crusts
- 1 large egg
- beaten
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the apple cubes and lemon juice, and cook until slightly softened.
- Stir in ⅓ cup sugar, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and cornstarch. Cook for another 5 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the pie crusts and cut them into circles. Place a spoonful of the apple mixture in the center of each circle.
- Fold the crust over to create a half-moon shape and seal the edges with a fork.
- Brush the tops with the beaten egg and sprinkle with the remaining sugar and cinnamon.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool before serving.
Notes
Feel free to substitute different spices or add raisins for added flavor. Make sure the apple mixture is cool before filling the crust to prevent sogginess.
