Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons apple juice
  • or water
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • or all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon apple juice
  • or water

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges.
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon, stirring to coat the apples.
  4. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, until the apples begin to soften.
  5. Stir in 3 tablespoons of apple juice or water, and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch or flour with 1 tablespoon of apple juice or water to create a slurry.
  7. Add the slurry to the apple mixture, stirring until the filling thickens.
  8. Remove from heat and let cool before using in your favorite pie recipe.

Notes

This filling can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week and can also be frozen for later use.
