- 1 sheet (9 oz / 250g) of store-bought frozen puff pastry
- thawed
- 2 medium apples (like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
- cored and thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup (120ml) of thick vanilla custard or pastry cream
- 2 tbsp (25g) of packed light brown sugar
- 2 tbsp (30g) of unsalted butter
- melted
- 1/2 tsp (1g) of ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp (15ml) of fresh lemon juice
- 1 large egg beaten with 1 tbsp (15ml) of water
- 1 tbsp (8g) of confectioners’ sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- On a floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry and transfer it to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Spread the vanilla custard evenly over the pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
- In a bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and melted butter.
- Arrange the apple slices in overlapping layers on top of the custard.
- Brush the edges of the pastry with the egg wash.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and the apples are tender.
- Allow to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before slicing and serving.
Notes
For an extra touch, consider adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on the side.
