- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 large egg yolks
- ¼ cup butter
- 1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell
- 4 large egg whites
- ¼ cup white sugar
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together 2 cups white sugar, 5 tablespoons cocoa powder, and ¼ cup flour.
- Slowly mix in the evaporated milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
- Remove from heat and add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 4 egg yolks, and ¼ cup butter. Stir until smooth.
- Pour the chocolate filling into the unbaked pie shell.
- In a separate bowl, beat 4 egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add ¼ cup white sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form.
- Spread the meringue over the pie filling, sealing the edges.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 30 minutes, or until the meringue is golden brown.
