Description

Delight in the layers of spiced cinnamon apples, rich salted caramel sauce, and fluffy cinnamon vanilla cream in this decadent Caramel Apple Trifle.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 medium apples Granny Smith and Honeycrisp mix peeled and diced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup water
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 box instant vanilla pudding mix 3.4 oz
  • 2 cups cold whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 ½ cups heavy whipping cream
  • ⅓ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 loaf pound cake about 10.75 oz cut into cubes
  • ¾ cup toasted pecans chopped
  • extra caramel for drizzling

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and add the diced apples, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the apples are tender.
  2. In a saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water, cooking over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and turns into a golden caramel. Remove from heat and stir in the butter, heavy cream, salt, and vanilla extract. Let it cool.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk for 2 minutes until smooth. In another bowl, whip the heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar until soft peaks form, then gently fold it into the pudding mixture along with the ground cinnamon.
  4. In a trifle dish, layer the pound cake cubes, followed by cinnamon apples, cinnamon vanilla cream, and salted caramel. Repeat the layers until the dish is filled, finishing with the cream on top.
  5. Sprinkle the chopped toasted pecans on top and drizzle extra caramel over the trifle. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to enjoy.

Notes

Feel free to add your favorite nuts or swap out the fruits for a twist on this trifle. For a more indulgent treat, add more caramel sauce in between the layers.
