Ingredients
All-Purpose Flour
Sharp Cheddar Cheese
Unsalted Butter
Fresh Jalapeños
Salt
Garlic Powder (optional)
Black Pepper or Smoked Paprika (optional)
Cream or Water (if needed)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter and sharp cheddar cheese until smooth.
- Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in the finely chopped fresh jalapeños, and if using, garlic powder and black pepper or smoked paprika.
- If the dough is too dry, mix in a tablespoon or two of cream or water until it holds together but is not sticky.
- Shape the dough into a log or press into a square and chill in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes.
- Slice the chilled dough into rounds and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
- Allow to cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
For a tangier flavor, consider using pickled jalapeños. Adjust the amount based on your spice preference.
