This Cheesy Steak and Queso Rice is a delicious 15-minute dinner that’s packed with flavors and perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients

1 tbsp olive oil
1 lb sirloin steak thinly sliced against the grain
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 cup uncooked white rice
2 cups chicken broth or water
1/2 cup store-bought queso blanco or Velveeta cheese sauce
1/4 cup shredded Monterey Jack or cheddar cheese optional for extra cheesiness
2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the sliced sirloin steak, season with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes.
- Stir in the uncooked rice and chicken broth (or water), bringing to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes until rice is tender.
- Remove from heat and stir in the queso cheese sauce and optional shredded cheese until melted and creamy.
- Garnish with chopped fresh cilantro before serving.
Notes
For an extra kick, consider adding diced jalapeños or a sprinkle of chili powder.
