- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter
- 8 oz (225g) dark chocolate

- 1/4 cup (25g) cocoa powder

- 1 cup (240ml) heavy cream

- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1 tsp lemon zest (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9 inch baking pan.
- In a saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter and chopped dark chocolate together, stirring until smooth.
- Remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar and maple syrup until well combined.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt, then fold them into the chocolate mixture until just combined.
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- While the brownies cool, prepare the chocolate mousse by whipping the chilled heavy cream in a mixing bowl until soft peaks form.
- In another bowl, mix the melted dark chocolate with powdered sugar and lemon zest until smooth, then gently fold in the whipped cream until fully combined.
- Once the brownies are completely cooled, spread the chocolate mousse over the top and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
