- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 Tablespoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 5 Tablespoons cold butter
- 4 Tablespoons cold cream cheese
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/3 cups fresh cherries pitted and halved
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds + 2 Tbsp. for topping
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 Tablespoons cream cheese room temperature
- 2–3 Tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter and cream cheese until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg, almond extract, and vanilla.
- Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined, then gently fold in the cherries and sliced almonds.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick.
- Cut the dough into wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle with the additional sliced almonds.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- While the scones cool, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, cream cheese, heavy cream, and almond extract until smooth.
- Drizzle the glaze over the cooled scones and serve warm.
Notes
For best results, use cold ingredients and handle the dough as little as possible to ensure fluffy scones.
