  • 2 Tablespoons (23 grams) Brown Sugar

  • 1 Teaspoon (<1 gram) Cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup (127 grams) Buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup (50 grams) Heavy Cream
  • FOR TOPPING SCONES: 1 Tablespoon Cream
  • Additional Cinnamon Sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and kosher salt.
  3. Cut in the cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the chopped walnuts and quartered fresh figs.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together the buttermilk, heavy cream, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  6. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined; do not overmix.
  7. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently pat into a circle about 1-inch thick.
  8. Cut the circle into wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Brush the tops with cream and sprinkle with additional cinnamon sugar if desired.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

Store any leftover scones in an airtight container for up to 2 days. They are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the oven.
