Description

This delightful French Apple Cake combines the tartness of Granny Smith apples with a rich, buttery batter, creating a perfect dessert for any occasion.

  • 1 lb. Granny Smith apples about 2 large
  • peeled and chopped into 1″ chunks
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons bourbon substitute with dark rum or brandy
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the bourbon (or rum/brandy) and vanilla extract.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until combined.
  7. Fold in the chopped apples until evenly distributed.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
