Ingredients
Scale
- 1/4 oz packet active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter melted
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 cups huckleberries
- 4 oz cream cheese softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 3 tbsp milk
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water with a teaspoon of sugar and let it sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the milk, egg, melted butter, and remaining sugar. Add the yeast mixture once it’s frothy.
- Stir in the salt and 2 cups of flour, mixing until smooth.
- Gradually add the remaining flour until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 5 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a baking dish.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and huckleberries.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into 1-inch thick rolls.
- Place the rolls in the prepared baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- While baking, combine softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk in a bowl to make the icing.
- Drizzle the icing over the warm rolls before serving.
Notes
For best results, allow the rolls to cool slightly before icing. Feel free to substitute blueberries or other berries if huckleberries are not available.
