- Dried oregano: This adds a lot of flavor to the salad dressing
- Freshly cracked black pepper: To season everything!
- Crushed red pepper flakes: This adds a little heat to the tomato dish
- Fresh garlic: Not only will this add a bold garlic flavor
- but raw garlic adds a little extra heat as well
- Fresh basil: A match made in heaven with fresh summer tomatoes!
Instructions
- Begin by placing the halved tomatoes in a bowl and sprinkling them with flaky sea salt. Let them sit for about 10 minutes to release excess water.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together extra virgin olive oil, aged balsamic vinegar, dried oregano, freshly cracked black pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, and minced fresh garlic.
- Pour the dressing over the tomatoes and toss gently to coat. Let the mixture marinate for an additional 10 minutes.
- Just before serving, add torn fresh basil leaves and give it another gentle toss. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
Notes
For best flavor, allow the tomatoes to marinate for at least 15 minutes before serving. This dish is perfect as a light salad or a side for grilled meats.
