- 1 cup very warm water
- 3 tablespoons very warm water
- 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
- 3 cups bread flour
- 1 teaspoon white sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 6 cloves garlic crushed
- ⅓ cup extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon herbes de Provence
- salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine 1 cup very warm water, 3 tablespoons of very warm water, and the yeast; let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add olive oil, bread flour, sugar, and salt to the yeast mixture; mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- After the dough has risen, punch it down and stretch it onto a greased baking pan.
- Let the dough rest for another 20 minutes, then indent the surface with your fingers.
- In a small bowl, mix crushed garlic, ⅓ cup olive oil, dried parsley, onion powder, herbes de Provence, and season with salt and pepper; drizzle this mixture over the dough.
- Sprinkle shredded Parmesan cheese over the top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve warm.
Notes
This focaccia can be served as a side, or used as a delicious base for sandwiches. Adjust garlic and herbs to your taste.
