- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 1/2 t salt
- 2 cups flour
- 2 t baking soda
- 1 cup oil
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 1 t vanilla
- green food coloring
- Halloween sprinkles
- edible eyes
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine the sugar, cocoa, salt, flour, and baking soda.
- Add the oil, buttermilk, and eggs, and mix until well combined.
- Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the icing, in a saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, cocoa, milk, margarine, and vanilla. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it reaches a boil.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly before icing the cooled cakes.
- Once iced, add green food coloring to some of the icing and swirl it for a spooky effect. Top the cake with Halloween sprinkles and edible eyes as desired.
Notes
Make sure the cakes are completely cooled before icing to prevent melting. You can adjust the toppings according to your preference for a more personalized Halloween touch.
