- 1 cup blueberries fresh or frozen
- ½ cup sugar more or less to taste
- juice 4–5 lemons about ¾ cup juice
- peels of 2–3 lemons optional
- 1 cup water for simple syrup
- 4 cups water for lemonade
- mint lemon peels and slices blueberries for garnish optional
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and ½ cup of sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved to create a simple syrup.
- Add the blueberries to the saucepan and simmer for about 10 minutes until the blueberries burst and release their juice. Strain the mixture to remove the solids, if desired.
- In a large pitcher, combine the fresh lemon juice, the blueberry syrup, and 4 cups of water. Stir well to combine.
- Taste the lemonade and adjust sweetness by adding more sugar or water as needed.
- Chill in the refrigerator or serve immediately over ice, garnished with mint, lemon slices, and additional blueberries.
Notes
Feel free to adjust the sweetness according to your taste. Using fresh blueberries adds a vibrant flavor, but frozen berries work well too.
