Ingredients

  • Small Onion (finely chopped)= 1
  • 2 tablespoons of water dissolved in 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Red chili peppers (dried or fresh)= 6 ounces
  • Minced cloves Garlic= 4
  • Ginger grated= 1-inch piece
  • Apple cider vinegar= 1 cup
  • Soy sauce= 2 tablespoons
  • White sugar= 2 tablespoons
  • Salt= 1 teaspoon
  • Water= 1 cup

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine the chopped onion, garlic, and grated ginger with 1 cup of water, and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  2. Add the red chili peppers, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, white sugar, and salt to the saucepan, and allow to cook for about 20 minutes.
  3. Once the chili peppers have softened, blend the mixture until smooth using a blender or immersion blender.
  4. Return the blended sauce to the saucepan, and stir in the cornstarch mixture. Cook for an additional 5 minutes until it thickens.
  5. Allow the sauce to cool before transferring it to a jar or bottle for storage.

Notes

Feel free to adjust the number of red chili peppers based on your heat preference. This sauce can be refrigerated for up to two weeks.
