Description

Experience the delightful flavors of Italian Easter with this beautifully braided Italian Easter Brioche, adorned with colorful eggs.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ tsp. yeast
  • ½ cup milk
  • warm
  • 6 large eggs
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup butter
  • softened
  • 810 RAW colored eggs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp. water
  • Nonpareils (colored sprinkles)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine 1 cup flour, yeast, and warm milk. Let sit until bubbly, about 10 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and blend well.
  3. Gradually add 3 cups of flour and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead in the softened butter until incorporated. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Once risen, divide the dough into pieces and braid them into a loaf shape.
  8. Place the raw colored eggs in the braid and brush the dough with the egg wash (1 egg mixed with 1 tsp. water).
  9. Sprinkle with nonpareils before baking.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Let cool before serving.

Notes

For best results, allow the brioche to cool completely before slicing. The colored eggs can be hard-boiled or raw, but ensure they are well-dyed for safety.
