Delicious KFC Coleslaw Recipe: Creamy & Zesty Side Dish

  • Author: Eleanor
  • Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

This copycat KFC coleslaw is creamy, crisp, sweet, and tangy, made with finely chopped cabbage, shredded carrots, and a smooth mayonnaise-based dressing. Chilling it before serving allows the flavors to blend for that classic coleslaw taste.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 small head green cabbage, finely chopped
  • 2 medium carrots, finely shredded
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons white or apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ¼ cup buttermilk, optional
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Finely chop the cabbage into small, uniform pieces.
  2. Shred the carrots and combine them with the chopped cabbage in a large bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sugar, vinegar, milk, and buttermilk if using. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  4. Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrots.
  5. Toss thoroughly until all of the vegetables are evenly coated.
  6. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to blend. For even better flavor, chill overnight.
  7. Stir the coleslaw before serving and adjust the seasoning if needed.

Notes

  • Finely chopped vegetables give the coleslaw its classic texture.
  • Use a fresh, firm green cabbage for the best crunch.
  • For a sweeter version, add a little extra sugar to taste.
  • Diced apple or raisins can be added for a fruity variation.
  • For a vegan version, use vegan mayonnaise and replace the buttermilk with plant-based milk mixed with a small amount of vinegar.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3–5 days. The coleslaw is best enjoyed within the first couple of days for maximum crispness.
