Description

This Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler is a delightful dessert that features a buttery crust and a sweet, juicy peach filling, perfect for summer gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons white sugar
  • divided
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup cold water
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • melted
  • 3 pounds fresh peaches – peeled
  • pitted
  • and sliced
  • ¾ cup orange juice
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • ½ cup butter
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in egg and cold water until dough forms.
  2. Divide dough in half, roll out one half to fit a 9×13 inch baking dish. Place in dish and set aside.
  3. In another bowl, mix sliced peaches with orange juice, lemon juice, remaining sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Pour the peach mixture over the crust in the baking dish. Dot with butter.
  5. Roll out the second half of dough and place it over the filling. Seal the edges and cut slits in the top for steam to escape.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.

Notes

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat!
