Paula Deen’s Ooey Gooey Butter Cake is a rich Southern dessert with a buttery cake-mix crust and a soft, creamy, irresistibly gooey cream cheese topping.

- 1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix
- ½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted
- 3 large eggs, divided
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 16 oz powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, 1 egg, and melted butter. Mix until well combined.
- Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
- In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and beat until creamy.
- Add the remaining 2 eggs and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and well combined.
- Pour the cream cheese mixture evenly over the cake base.
- Bake for 40–50 minutes, until the edges are golden brown while the center remains slightly gooey.
- Cool completely before cutting into squares.
Notes
- Do not overbake; the center should remain soft and gooey.
- For easier slicing, allow the cake to cool completely before cutting.
- Serve with whipped cream, fresh berries, caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, or vanilla ice cream.
- Store covered at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5–7 days.
- Individual slices can be wrapped and frozen for up to 3 months.
