  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 5 fresh peaches – peeled
  • pitted and halved
  • ½ cup butter
  • softened
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.
  2. In a saucepan, melt ¼ cup of butter over medium heat and stir in the brown sugar and nutmeg until smooth.
  3. Pour the brown sugar mixture into the prepared cake pan and arrange the peach halves on top, cut side down.
  4. In a bowl, cream the softened butter and white sugar together until light and fluffy.
  5. Add the egg and mix well.
  6. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and gradually add to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk.
  7. Pour the cake batter over the peaches in the pan.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow to cool for a few minutes, then invert onto a serving plate to reveal the peaches on top.
