Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • cold and cubed
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 6 medium pears
  • peeled
  • cored
  • and sliced (about 6 cups)
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Mix well.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the mixture and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to blend until crumbly.
  4. In another bowl, toss the sliced pears with lemon juice, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg until coated.
  5. Spread the pear filling into a greased baking dish and sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the pears.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the pears are bubbly.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream.
