Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf french bread
  • slightly stale
  • 24 Tbsp. butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 2/3 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 Tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice*
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Cut the slightly stale French bread into 1-inch slices if necessary, or dry fresh slices in the oven at 275°F for 8 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, pumpkin puree, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and pumpkin pie spice until well combined.
  3. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak briefly on each side.
  5. Place the soaked slices in the skillet and cook until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  6. In a small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon for the coating.
  7. Once cooked, remove the French toast sticks from the skillet, and roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture while still warm.
  8. Serve with maple syrup or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Feel free to adjust the pumpkin spice and cinnamon sugar ratios to suit your taste. Serve immediately for the best texture.
