These Salted Caramel Butter Bars made with a cake mix are a delightful dessert featuring a rich shortbread crust and gooey caramel layer, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1 box yellow butter cake mix
  • ⅓ cup butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 11 ounces Caramel Bits candies
  • 23 Tablespoons heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ Tablespoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the yellow butter cake mix, softened butter, and large egg until well blended.
  3. Press the mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to create an even crust.
  4. In a saucepan over low heat, melt the caramel bits with heavy cream, stirring until smooth.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and kosher salt, if using.
  6. Pour the caramel mixture over the crust, spreading it evenly.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden and the center is set.
