- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup butter
- 3/4 cup water
- 5 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 6 tbsp buttermilk
- 1/2 cup butter
- 5 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 lb powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup walnuts chopped
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a large baking sheet.
- In a large bowl, combine sugar, flour, salt, cocoa powder, and baking soda.
- Add melted butter and water to the dry ingredients and mix well.
- Stir in buttermilk and eggs until the batter is smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the frosting by beating together butter, cocoa powder, buttermilk, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
- Once the cake is cooled, spread the frosting evenly on top and sprinkle with chopped walnuts.
- Cut into bite-sized pieces and serve.
Notes
For a variation, you can substitute the walnuts with pecans or leave them out entirely for a nut-free version.
