Description

These Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls are a delightful treat, perfect for breakfast or dessert. The overnight method makes them easy to prepare, allowing the flavors to develop for a deliciously fluffy roll topped with cream cheese frosting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 227 grams active sourdough starter
  • 170 grams whole milk slightly warm
  • 2 large eggs
  • 50 grams granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons softened butter
  • 500 grams all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup softened butter unsalted
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 4 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 4 tablespoons butter softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 12 tablespoons milk if needed

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the active sourdough starter, slightly warm milk, eggs, granulated sugar, and salt, and mix well.
  2. Add softened butter and gradually mix in the all-purpose flour until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic, then place it in a greased bowl and cover it. Let it rise overnight in the refrigerator.
  4. The next morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle.
  5. Spread the softened butter for the filling over the dough, then mix brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt, and sprinkle it evenly over the butter.
  6. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut it into even slices, placing them in a greased baking dish. Let them rise for about 30 minutes.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. While the rolls are baking, prepare the cream cheese frosting by beating together softened cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth.
  9. Once the rolls are done, let them cool slightly before drizzling with cream cheese frosting. Enjoy!

Notes

For an even richer flavor, try adding nuts or raisins to the filling. These rolls can be frozen before baking; just thaw and bake as directed when ready to enjoy.
