Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the warmed whole milk, melted butter, sourdough discard, instant yeast, granulated sugar, egg, and salt. Mix until well combined.
- Gradually add the bread flour and mix until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and flour or cornstarch to create the filling.
- Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle. Spread the filling evenly over the dough.
- Roll the dough tightly from one end to the other, then slice into equal pieces to create the rolls. Arrange the rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375ºF (190ºC). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the rolls are baking, prepare the frosting by mixing together the softened butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, maple extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
- Once the cinnamon rolls are out of the oven, let them cool slightly before drizzling the frosting over the top. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Make sure your sourdough discard is 100% hydration for the best results. You can adjust the sweetness of the frosting to your liking.
